Noel Rosa, a Celebration is the fourth in an annual series of shows created and produced by Kátia Moraes. Her three previous "Celebration shows" were dedicated to important and influential Brazilian singers: Elis Regina (2012), Clara Nunes (2013) and Maria Bethânia (2014).
Noel Rosa (1910-1936) was a singer/songwriter who died in Rio de Janeiro in1937 at 26 years old, leaving a body of work so definitive and prolific that he is revered today as the poetic genius of the Golden Age of Samba.

My intention this year was to introduce the American audience to pioneer female Brazilian artists who have been inspiring new generations of poets, writers, songwriters, and politicians in Brazil and beyond. Incredible women from pianist/maestro Chiquinha Gonzaga, award-winning poets and actresses like Adelia Prado and Fernanda Montenegro, to rock queen Rita Lee, among others.
