A Night of Brazilian and Arab Music: A free concert with A.J. Racy, Samba Society, and Special Guests, presented by the UCLA G.E. von Grunebaum Center for Near Eastern Studies
Samba Society is a collective of musicians from the Brazilian community of Southern California. Under the artistic direction of UCLA Ph.D. candidate Beto González, Samba Society is primarily dedicated to the partido alto and samba de terreiro popularized by Rio´s "Old Guard" of urban samba. The group´s repertoire features renditions of vintage sambas reminiscent of classic recordings from the 1970s. Samba Society features Colin Walker (7-string guitar), Simon Carroll (percussion), Bobby Easton (percussion), Louise McCarthy (vocals), Emina Shimanuki (vocals), and will spotlight very specials guests Mitchell Long (cavaco) and Kátia Moraes (vocals).

Clapping and easy singing are joyfully encouraged while dancing. Simple choreography will be presented. Cool down with yoga steps plus breathing relaxation, and more.

This will take place at a fabulous outdoor venue!
There will be a wooden dance floor on a portion of the field for dancing. There is picnicking, picnic tables, a kids playground, and the stage is set under a beautiful heritage oak tree. The closer audience spread blankets and sit on the turf, chairs are set in the rear, they sell beer, wine, soda, snacks.
Kids 6 and under are free, and they encourage families to use these events to celebrate life and share the thrill of live music with their kids. Its all upbeat, danceable fun world music and celebration of different cultures. It's a great line up:

LA Music Academy Hosts Benefit March 11th Top LA Musicians Come Together for an Evening to Benefit Vocal Grad Marie Sabe The LA Music Academy will host a benefit for vocal grad Marie Sabe on March 11th at 7 PM on the school´s grounds. The show will feature musical performances by many world-renowned musicians, including several Academy instructors. Marie Sabe, who attended the LA Music Academy vocal program in 2004, was the victim of a violent crime in late January. While at her place of work in Los Angeles she was attacked by a man working as a janitor (now known to be an ex-convict on parole) and was stabbed multiple times. She remains stable and is recovering remarkably well, but has a long and difficult road to recovery. Due to her injuries and inability to work, Marie needs help with living expenses and medical bills. Performers will include Katia Moraes and Sambaguru, Vocal Department Chair Kevyn Lettau, keyboardist Russell Ferrante (The Yellowjackets), Dorian Holley (Vocal Instructor, American Idol coach), Diana Booker (Vocal Instructor), as well as other special guests. The LA Music Academy is located at 370 South Fair Oaks Avenue, in Old Town Pasadena. Tickets prices are $30 (plus donation) and are available at the LA Music Academy.
